VOCATION FORMATION
The formation period from discernment to permanent vow is 7-10 years: 2 years as candidate (discernment), 1 as postulant, 1 as novice, 3-6 for temporary vows. For priesthood, it is about 12 years. Throughout this period, while imitating the way of St. Francis, the candidate receives formation on faith, ethics, education, and completes pastoral training at various parishes. Manual labor is also a significant component of the formation. For the Franciscan order, there is no distinction in formation between a priest and a brother. The primary objective of the formation is not necessarily to become a priest, but to be humble to every person and creature. Priesthood is just another way to serve the Church through the celebration of the sacraments. As the formation period lasts on average between 7–12 years, the cost of the vocation formation is significant. Therefore The Franciscan Province needs the financial support from VFVM and others. We urge you to support the vocation formation by being a member of VFVM.
The membership fees is currently $60 (sixty dollars) per year or $5 (five dollars) per month. This amount, along with the support of the Franciscan Vocation Association in Vietnam, allows the Franciscan Province to meet its formation budget. We are blessed to be able to support the formation of future harvest workers.
